Columbia University student says situation ‘very scary’ for pro-Palestine activists
In an interview with 60 Minutes on CBS News, Maryam Alwan, a leader of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at Columbia University in the US, says students have been facing repercussions for speaking out publicly. Alwan says pro-Palestine activists on campus have been receiving death threats, and even being called terrorists by some professors at the university. SJP itself has been suspended from campus for holding unauthorised rallies. During student protests, Alwan says students of colour feel ‘unsafe’ when the university closes all the gates and deploys ‘hordes’ of police.
