Iran’s President-elect Masoud Pezeshkian told Lebanese Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah yesterday that support for the resistance movement is “rooted” in Tehran’s fundamental policies.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always supported the resistance of the people in the region against the illegitimate Zionist regime. Supporting the resistance is rooted in the fundamental policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the ideals of the late Imam Khomeini, and the guidance of the Supreme Leader, and will continue with strength,” wrote Pezeshkian. “I am confident that the resistance movements in the region will not allow this regime [Israel] to continue its warmongering and criminal policies against the oppressed people of Palestine and other nations in the region.”

The president-elect thanked Nasrallah for his “sincere prayers” for him. “I too ask God Almighty to grant you more glory and honour, prosperity and progress to the people of Lebanon, and divine victory to the heroes of the resistance.”

Pezeshkian’s letter was sent in response to Nasrullah’s congratulatory message sent on Saturday. “We in Hezbollah and in all the resistance groups in the region always look to the Islamic Republic of Iran as a strong, stable and permanent support,” he wrote. “Together with your Excellency, we will continue on the path to victory, and its pillar will be a strong Islamic Iran.”
