Argentina has declared Palestinian Resistance group, Hamas, an “international terrorist organisation” over its attack on Israel on 7 October last year and its history of resistance to the Israeli occupation.
In a statement on Friday, the office of Argentina’s President, Javier Milei, announced that “the Hamas group has been declared by the Argentine state as an international terrorist organisation”, citing the reason as being based on “an extensive record of terrorist attacks on their behalf”.
Also condemning Hamas’s “link” with Iran, the Argentinean President’s office stressed that Milei “has an unwavering commitment to recognise terrorists for what they are”.
Buenos Aires’s proscription of Hamas as a terrorist group makes it the latest state in a handful of countries to blacklist the group, with the majority of the international community refraining from doing so due to ambiguity in the line between legitimate resistance and terrorism.
The declaration has only further revealed President Milei’s stance as a close ally of Israel – something he has displayed openly since his election to office last year.
