Qatar and Vietnam hold third round of political consultations in Hanoi

The third round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Qatar and Vietnam took place in Hanoi on Friday. Leading the talks were Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, and Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nguyen Minh Hang.

According to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), the discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation and addressing issues of mutual interest. Al-Muraikhi also met with Vietnam’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bui Thanh Son.

Minister Son praised the outcomes of the consultations, noting the importance of implementing agreements and boosting Qatari investments. He emphasised the commitment to global and regional peace, and the need for mutual support in multilateral forums, particularly between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).


Al-Muraikhi for his part expressed Doha’s high regard for its relationship with Vietnam, commending Vietnam’s active role in ASEAN. He pledged to implement the discussed cooperation initiatives and to enhance high-level visits and coordination on regional issues.

Both sides agreed on the importance of cultural, art, sport, and tourism exchanges, and facilitating travel between citizens, including exploring a visa exemption agreement.

Earlier, Nguyen Minh Hang and Al-Muraikhi co-chaired the political consultation, affirming a commitment to multifaceted cooperation. Al-Muraikhi praised Vietnam’s socio-economic growth and expressed Qatar’s readiness to expand collaboration in various sectors.

The Qatari diplomat pledged to expedite agreements on diplomacy, labour, and other areas. The discussions also included plans to boost Qatari participation in Vietnam’s Halal industry and support Vietnam’s key products in the Qatari market.

Today, Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani sent a cable of condolences to Vietnam’s President Tu Lam, on the death of former President Nguyen Phu Trong.
