Israel has slammed the Palestinian Fatah movement led by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas for signing an agreement brokered by China that would bring Hamas into a “national reconciliation government”.

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz blasted the deal saying: “Instead of rejecting terrorism, Mahmoud Abbas embraces the murders and rapists of Hamas.” As a result, he added, he is “revealing his true face.”

In a post on X, the minister said the agreement would fall through “because Hamas’s rule will be crushed.”

“Israel’s security will remain solely in Israel’s hands,” he added.

Earlier on Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced that a unity agreement had been concluded between 14 Palestinian factions to form an “interim national reconciliation government” to administer Gaza after the war.

The agreement comes in the midst of the Israeli war in the Gaza Strip, in which more than 39,000 Palestinians have been killed, the majority women and children.
