US professor says Israel’s problems ‘deep, unfixable’

Renowned professor of political science Dr John Mearsheimer has given a “gloomy” analysis about Israel’s standing, saying that the occupation state’s problems are “deep, unfixable” and getting worse.

Mearsheimer made his comment during an interview with Judge Napolitano, saying that ten months into its ruthless war against the Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip, the Israeli army is worn out, yet it has not defeated Palestinians resistance fighters in Hamas. “Israel is stuck in Gaza,” said the professor. It’s a hornet’s nest from which it had to leave in 2005, he pointed out, adding that Israel simply cannot comprehend that the catastrophic destruction and unresolved problems it has caused in Gaza lie on its border.

Indeed, Mearsheimer continued, Israel has no military solution against external threats like Hezbollah. “Even if Israel gets into a war with Iran, and no matter how much force it uses against Iran, Tehran — which is on the verge of acquiring a nuclear bomb — will still be there.”

He explained that Israel is also inflicted with internal chaos and on the brink of “civil war.” And with Tel Aviv’s heavy reliance on US financial and political support and cover, it is impossible for it to consider that it is the independent state that it likes to think it is.

The level of criticism among scholars, researchers and experts in the US towards Israel has increased at record rates recently. This is especially the case after the assassinations of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and senior Hezbollah official Fuad Shukr, which demonstrated how Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is manipulating US President Joe Biden, who in turn appeared weak in the face of Netanyahu’s tricks and tactics, as reported recently by the Washington Post.
