London protests Israel's fajr massacre in Gaza

Hundreds of people took to the streets of the UK capital yesterday calling for an end to Israel's genocidal war on Gaza after the fajr massacre on Saturday, when Israel killed more than 100 civilians after striking a shelter school while Palestinians were performing morning prayers.

Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the British prime minister’s residence at 10 Downing Street yesterday in an emergency demonstration calling on the government to immediately halt arms sales to Israel and take concrete actions in response to the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

Demonstrators highlighted Israel’s recent massacre at Al-Tabi’in School in Gaza City, where more than 100 Palestinians were killed while performing the morning (fajr) prayer on Saturday.

Organised by the Palestine Solidarity Coalition, which includes the Palestinian Forum in Britain, the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Stop the War Coalition, the Muslim Association of Britain, Friends of Al-Aqsa and Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, the protest saw placards reading “Stop Arming Israel,” “End the Genocide in Gaza,” and “Justice for Al Tabi’in.”

Addressing the crowd, Palestinian Ambassador to the UK, Husam Zomlot, highlighted the suffering of Palestinians and urging the UK to stand on the right side of history. While Independent MP, Jeremy Corbyn, criticised the government’s complicity in the violence, calling for an immediate halt to arms sales to Israel. While leaders of trade unions emphasised the importance of solidarity, justice and the need for international accountability.

“The UK government cannot remain silent in the face of these atrocities. The massacre at Al-Tabi’in School is just the latest in a series of war crimes that have taken the lives of thousands of innocent men, women, and children. By continuing to supply arms to Israel, the UK is complicit in these crimes,” Chairman of the Palestinian Forum in Britain, Zaher Birawi, said.
