The Turkish Red Crescent Society, in cooperation with the University of Health Sciences and the Recep Tayyip Erdogan Hospital in Mogadishu, launched a first aid training programme on Monday for 300 health workers in the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Anadolu has reported.

The programme’s opening ceremony was attended by SoDMA Commissioner Mahmoud Moalim Abdullah and the coordinator of the Turkish Red Crescent in Somalia, Serif Simsek. The training is scheduled to last for one month.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Simsek said that the aim is to develop the capabilities of the agency’s staff.

Abdullah, meanwhile, pointed out that the timing of the programme is very appropriate, especially since Somalia has recently witnessed many explosions that have resulted in injuries to citizens.
