Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced yesterday the inauguration of a new embassy in Somalia. The ministry emphasised that this development in Mogadishu reflects Cairo’s commitment to enhancing cooperation and strengthening the historical bonds between the two countries.
The ministry mentioned that the new embassy is poised to open new avenues for cooperation across various sectors of mutual interest. The move is also expected to boost trade and economic relations between Egypt and Somalia, particularly following the launch of a direct EgyptAir flight between Cairo and Mogadishu last month.
In a related development, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, met with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony for Rwandan President Paul Kagame on Monday. Mohamud is also expected to arrive in Cairo today to meet with his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.
At the ceremony in Kigali, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s commitment to strengthening political, economic, and health relations with Rwanda, in line with El-Sisi’s directives to enhance cooperation with fellow African states.
