Hamas yesterday condemned an attack by illegal Israeli settlers on the village of Jit in the northern West Bank, during which one Palestinian was killed and homes and cars were set on fire.

In a statement, the Palestinian resistance group called for Palestinians to confront gangs of illegal settlers.

“We mourn the heroic martyr Rashid Mahmoud Sada, who was killed by settler militias in the village of Jit, and we affirm that this pure blood will not go in vain and will be a curse upon the occupation,” it added.

Last night, illegal Israeli settlers killed a Palestinian citizen, seriously injured another and set fire to four homes and six vehicles owned by Palestinians after they stormed the village of Jit in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health and Israel’s Army Radio.

Eyewitnesses said Israeli occupation forces provided protection to the settlers during their raid on the village.

Over the past few years, the Israeli occupation army has conducted regular raids in the West Bank, which have escalated since the beginning of its war on Gaza in October last year.

At least 632 Palestinians have since been killed and nearly 5,400 others injured by Israeli army fire in the occupied territory, according to the Ministry of Health.

In a landmark advisory opinion on 19 July, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) declared Israel’s decades-long occupation of Palestinian land “illegal” and demanded the evacuation of all existing settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem and for reparations to be paid to Palestinians.
