Fires as Houthi missile strikes Israel

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to make Yemen's Houthis pay a 'heavy price' after a surface-to-surface hypersonic missile struck Israel. Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi has warned that more advanced attacks could follow.

A Houthi missile fired from Yemen has hit central Israel, sparking fire, according to the Israeli military.

The missile triggered air raid sirens in Tel Aviv and across central Israel, sending residents running for shelter. There were no reports of casualties.

Social media users shared images of fires at a factory in central Israel. MEMO couldn’t independently verify the footage.

Houthis’ Saba news agency said the Israeli defence system could not shoot down the Yemeni missile, which caused a fire.

“A Yemeni missile reached Israel after ’20 missiles failed to intercept’ it,” Nasruddin Amer, a Houthi media official, posted on X.

The strike comes after Israel hit Yemen’s Hudaydah port city in August, with the Houthis threatening to retaliate.

Since November, the Houthis have been launching maritime attacks on Israel-linked vessels in response to the occupation state’s ongoing bombing of the Gaza Strip, which has been described as a genocide by UN officials.
