Norway reiterates strong support for International Criminal Court

Norway reiterated its strong support for the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Tuesday, Anadolu Agency reports.

“Norway stands firm in our support of the International Criminal Court in its mission to uphold justice as an independent institution,” Foreign Minister, Espen Barth Eide, wrote on X as he noted meeting ICC Prosecutor, Karim Khan, in New York at the UN General Assembly meetings.

“Accountability and the fight against impunity is paramount,” he added.

Khan requested arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and Defence Minister, Yoav Gallant, on 20 May for war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip.

Israel has continued a brutal offensive on Gaza following a cross-border attack by the Palestinian Resistance group, Hamas, on 7 October last year, despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire.

More than 41,400 victims, mostly women and children, have since been killed and over 95,500 injured, according to local health authorities.

The Israeli onslaught has displaced almost the entire population of the territory amid an ongoing blockade that has led to severe shortages of food, clean water and medicine.

Israel also faces accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza.
