Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met Abdul Salam and Humam Haniyeh, the sons of the late Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, in Doha on Wednesday. Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran — it is assumed by Israel — on 31 July.

The official Palestinian news agency, WAFA, said that Abbas offered his condolences to the sons of the martyred national leader, recalling his achievements in the path of the Palestinian national struggle. “The Palestinian people will obtain their full legitimate rights to freedom and independence, no matter how many crimes and attacks the Israeli occupation commits against our people, our land and our holy sites,” insisted Abbas.

“We were honoured to meet with President Abu Mazen, President of the State of Palestine,” wrote Abdel Salam Haniyeh on Facebook alongside a photograph of their meeting. “His Excellency spoke about the virtues of the martyred leader, stressing that our people will be victorious, God willing.”

The head of the Hamas political bureau was assassinated in a bombing of his room at the guesthouse where he was staying during a visit to Tehran to attend the inauguration of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian at the end of July. Iran has accused Israel of being responsible for the political murder.
