Israel has killed 34 members of the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), including 19 who were directly targeted while carrying out their duties, the humanitarian organisation’s media officer told an Egyptian news organisation.
Nebal Farsakh said that this year has been particularly harsh for the residents of Gaza, both on a humanitarian level and for those working in the health and medical sectors.
Israel’s primary focus, she explained, has been targeting hospitals, medical facilities and health workers.
“The occupation has forced Al-Quds Hospital in Gaza and Al-Amal Hospital out of service, but we have managed to restore services in both. Today, however, we face the threat of the hospitals shutting down again due to the occupation’s refusal to allow the delivery of spare parts for the generator,” the PRCS officer said.
The PRCS also stated on its official X account that Israel has been targeting its workers even though they are wearing the Red Crescent emblem and carrying out their duties.
“As we mark a year of continuous war on the Gaza Strip, we remember the heroes of humanitarian work today. 19 Palestine Red Crescent Society staff and volunteers were killed while performing their humanitarian duty, despite wearing the Red Crescent emblem, which was meant to ensure their protection,” she said.
