Hamas has described the Israeli army’s targeting of a group of children playing in Gaza City as a “horrific crime” that “requires international human rights organisations to file lawsuits before the competent courts”. Five Palestinian children were killed and 12 other people, including women, were injured in an Israeli attack that targeted them in Al-Shati Refugee Camp to the west of Gaza City.
“The targeting of a group of children by the terrorist Zionist occupation forces this afternoon while they were playing in Al-Shati Refugee Camp reflects the apartheid regime’s moral decline beyond all limits,” said Hamas. “The Nazi occupation kills merely for the sake of killing and ethnic cleansing.”
The movement called on international human rights organisations “to document this crime against these children and the martyrdom of thousands of other Palestinian children during the ongoing genocide, along with hundreds of other Zionist massacres against our people.”
Legal action, insisted Hamas, should be taken at the International Criminal Court to bring the Zionist leaders and war criminals to trial for these atrocities that will not be subject to the statute of limitations. “The blood of our children will remain a curse that haunts them everywhere.”
Since the beginning of the genocide, Israel has killed at least 17,000 Palestinian children, according to the latest statistics from the government media office in the Gaza Strip.
With US backing and support, the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza has killed and wounded more than 140,000 Palestinians, while more than 11,000 are thought to be missing, presumed dead, under the rubble of their homes and other civilian infrastructure destroyed by the Israeli army.
