Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein yesterday warned of a global energy crisis if Israel’s war in Gaza and Lebanon expands across the region.
“The continuation of war and its expansion toward the Islamic Republic of Iran and the violation of Iraqi airspace is completely unacceptable and rejected,” Hussein said during a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi in Baghdad, adding that his country seeks to remain out of any regional conflicts.
For his part, the Iranian foreign minister warned that the region is facing serious challenges, noting the possibility of Israel dragging the region into a wider conflict.
“We are in consultations with friends to stop the Zionist aggression on Lebanon and Gaza,” he said, stressing that Tehran “is not looking for war or escalation and seeks to achieve peace in the region.”
“I am very happy to hear the Iraqi foreign minister and Iraq’s stance on not allowing the violation of Iraqi airspace to attack Iran,” Araghchi added.
Araghchi arrived in Baghdad yesterday for bilateral consultations regarding regional developments.
