Former American President, Donald Trump, highlighted his frequent conversations with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating that they speak nearly every day and maintain a strong relationship.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Georgia, Trump referred to Netanyahu by his nickname, “Bibi”, and announced, “Bibi called me yesterday, and the day before,” emphasising their regular conversations.
Trump, who has often positioned himself as a staunch ally of Israel, stated that he and Netanyahu maintain a “very good relationship” and indicated that they plan to “work very closely together” following Israel’s ongoing war against Gaza.
Since a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group, Hamas, in early October, the Israeli military has continued its brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip, despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire.
More than 42,800 people have since been killed, mostly women and children, and over 100,500 others injured, according to local health authorities.
According to The Times of Israel, Trump added, “Unfortunately they didn’t listen to Biden because … they’d right now be waiting for a bomb to drop on them, and they did their own work.” He went on to criticise Biden’s stance against Israel targeting Iran’s nuclear or oil facilities after a recent Iranian missile strike and stated, “Really, that’s sort of the opposite.”
Earlier in the week, Trump had already reported a telephone conversation with Netanyahu on Saturday, claiming that the Israeli leader “wants my view on things”.
Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden’s last known call with Netanyahu occurred on 17 October, when Biden commended the Israeli leader for the killing of Hamas leader, Yahya Sinwar, according to the White House.
Back in July, during a visit to the US Congress, Netanyahu publicly praised Trump, thanking him for his significant support of Israel over the years.
