Several loud explosions were heard in Iran’s capital Tehran and the nearby city of Karaj early today, semi-official Iranian media said according to Reuters.
Iran’s state TV said several strong explosions were heard around the capital, but there was no official comment about the source of the explosions.
The Israeli army later announced that it was “conducting precise strikes on military targets in Iran,” adding that this was in response to Iran’s retaliatory strike on Israeli sites on 1 October.

Israel has been planning a response to a ballistic-missile barrage carried out by Iran on 1 October which came in response to Israel’s assassination of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah.
Witnesses in Tehran confirmed hearing loud explosions.
“It was so loud and the sky became red,” said an Iranian resident in Tehran, who asked not to be named.
