The Turkish company Meteksan Defence has announced the export of its first armed unmanned surface vessel, ULAQ, to Qatar. The company said on Wednesday that the first export contract for the ULAQ vessel was signed with the Qatari Ministry of Interior during the Milipol Qatar Exhibition, specialising in the security sector.
The company noted that the ULAQ11 PSV vessel will be used by the Qatar Coast Guard Command for reconnaissance, surveillance, intelligence missions and critical facility protection activities.
Sukru Serkan Sevim, Deputy General Manager of Meteksan Defence Autonomous Systems, confirmed that the company is very proud of Turkiye’s first unmanned surface vessel export deal. The company, added Sevim, is now motivated to continue its efforts to meet the needs of both Turkiye and allied countries in this field.
According to the Deputy General Manager of ARES Shipyard in Turkiye, Oguzhan Pehlivanli, work is continuing to develop the best unmanned surface vessels in the world. He pointed out that the aim is to make Turkiye a pioneer in the field.
The ULAQ unmanned vessel is the result of joint work between ARES and Meteksan Defence in Turkiye, and is characterised by having anti-submarine capabilities.
