A campaign calling for breaking the siege imposed on the northern Gaza Strip by Israel has announced that dozens of young Jordanians, men and women, are going on an open-ended hunger strike, Quds Press has reported.

“The strike began on the first Friday of this month,” explained the “Throw Down Your Stick” campaign, “as young men and women gathered near the US Embassy in Amman as part of a protest march and announced the start of their hunger strike.”

Protesters called for freedom for Gaza and rejected the Israeli occupation regime’s policies that seek to displace the population and impose a harsh humanitarian crisis on civilians in the north of the Palestinian enclave.

“The hunger strikers took an oath during a march in front of the Professional Associations Complex in Amman,” added the campaign statement, “to commit to the strike until the campaign’s goals are achieved.”

Another demonstration was organised on Saturday, in front of the National Centre for Human Rights, as part of a series of planned events to highlight the hunger strikers’ demands and call on human rights organisations to support them.
