The Iraqi government’s Council for National Security said yesterday that reports that Iran planned to use Iraqi territory to launch a retaliatory strike on Israel are “false”.
Commenting on a report by Axios, which claimed that US officials had warned Iraq not to allow Iran to strike Israel from within Iraq as the occupation state would then retaliate, Iraqi military spokesperson Yahya Rasool said such reports were an effort to justify attacks on Iraq and had no basis.
Citing American and Israeli officials, Axios added that US and Israeli intelligence indicates that Iran is planning a major attack against Israel from Iraqi territory in the coming days, in response to a recent Israeli strike that killed four.
