Israel’s Chief of Staff, General Herzi Halevi, yesterday said the military must prepare to expand its ongoing aggression against Lebanon while continuing diplomatic efforts to reach a settlement there.

“Alongside the diplomatic attempt to reach agreements in Lebanon, we need to continue formulating the plans for the continuation of the fighting in Lebanon, including expanding and deepening the [ground] manoeuvre, and we will activate these plans as needed,” Halevi said during an assessment, according to an army statement.

He added that the army must “continue to strike Hezbollah targets according to plan in the entire region, in southern Lebanon, the Beqaa Valley, Beirut and Syria.”

The Israeli army announced in a separate statement striking a series of Hezbollah targets in the southern suburbs of Beirut yesterday evening.

“A short time ago, warplanes, under intelligence guidance, attacked Hezbollah military sites in the southern suburbs of Beirut, including weapons depots and military infrastructure,” it said.
