A three-day sit-in protest has started in front of the US Embassy in Ireland’s capital, Dublin, to show solidarity with Palestine against the military, diplomatic and financial support provided by Washington to Israel. Activists from groups such as the Ireland Palestine Solidary Campaign, Teachers for Palestine and Irish Healthcare Workers for Palestine are participating in the protest and demanding an end to the funding of “Zionist war crimes”.
One of the participants told Anadolu news agency that they aim to draw attention to the fact that the US government is the one providing the weapons and equipment used by Israel to commit genocide in Gaza. “We are here to highlight the importance of working to expose the crimes in which the US government participates and is complicit,” said Osaid Abed.
Another participant, Kevin O’Brien, pointed out: “Today we are demonstrating against the genocide in Gaza. We are here to protest the Zionists who caused the genocide, and the Americans who contributed to facilitating this destruction and killing a large number of innocent people.” He added his belief that “they cannot destroy” Palestine. “This will never happen, but they must stop now, negotiate and end this horrific tragedy.”
Israel, with the total backing of the US, has been committing genocide in the Gaza Strip, killing and wounding about 146,000 Palestinians, most of them children and women. Moreover, an estimated 11,000 are missing, presumed dead, under the rubble of their homes and other civilian infrastructure destroyed by the occupation state.
