Hackers reportedly linked to Iranian intelligence have leaked the identities and personal data of an Israeli nuclear scientist and a defence official, in the latest such cyber-attack between the two nations to be revealed.
According to Israeli news outlet, Haaretz, hackers allegedly affiliated with Iran’s intelligence service leaked the personal data of a nuclear scientist at the Soreq Nuclear Research Centre, including around 30 photos of the facility which were taken from the scientist’s hacked phone and email.
The leaked material also included a screenshot of a list of Israeli nuclear scientists working on the facility’s “particle accelerator” project, as well as an Israeli Defence Ministry former director general’s private photos and documents after his account was hacked.
The breaching of the individuals’ devices and the leaking of their and other nuclear scientists’ identities is the latest reported cyber attack to be allegedly conducted by Iran or its affiliated groups. It follows on from years of such attacks between Tehran and Tel Aviv, in which they have targeted each other’s bases, facilities, energy grids and water systems.
