Israeli authorities yesterday urged fans not to attend Thursday’s France-Israel football match in Paris, after Israeli fans went on the rampage before and after a game in Amsterdam last week, attacking Arabs, ripping Palestinian flags from private properties and chanting racist slurs.
The Israeli National Security Council said Israelis should “categorically avoid attending Israeli sports/cultural events abroad, and specifically the Israeli teams’ upcoming match in Paris.”
In Paris, French President Emmanuel Macron will join football fans at the Stade de France on Thursday when France faces Israel.
The French government insists it will not change its plans to host the UEFA Nations League match, instead relying on substantial security measures with thousands of police deployed around the stadium to ensure the safety of visiting fans.
Dutch police have confirmed that Israeli fans had attacked a taxi driver and ripped Palestinian flags from homes in Amsterdam, which led to locals hitting back to protect their property.
