The UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, held talks with senior Omani officials and the chief negotiator for the Houthi group, Mohammed Abdulsalam, as part of the United Nations’ efforts to resolve the Yemen crisis.
Discussions focused on the measures to improve the deteriorating economic conditions resulting from financial divisions, emphasising the fostering of serious commitments that could lead to a comprehensive political process, according to a post that appeared on his official account on X.
“The discussions also explored pathways to advance commitments for an inclusive, intra-Yemeni political process,” the post read.
“In his meeting with Ansar Allah [the Houthis], Grundberg also demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all arbitrarily detained UN and other personnel,” it added.
Grundberg and his team are intensifying meetings with both parties to the conflict to break the current deadlock and advance political discussions toward signing a roadmap to end the crisis.
The envoy is also seeking to reinforce the economic agreement reached between the parties in July, which includes unifying the central bank and stabilising the currency, seen as foundational steps toward achieving sustainable political solutions and implementing the first phase of the peace roadmap.
