The Palestinian Ministry of Telecommunications and Digital Economy launched a postcode service on Google Maps, in an effort to enhance the country’s digital infrastructure and improve the accuracy of identifying its locations, Maan reported.
This service will allow Google Maps users in Palestine – the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip – to identify postcodes for each area and contribute to improving postal, delivery and e-commerce services.
Minister of Telecommunications and Digital Economy Dr. Abdel Razzaq Natsheh, said: “Launching the Palestinian post code service on Google Maps is a major achievement for Palestine in improving digital infrastructure and integrating with global standards.
This ongoing effort reflects our commitment to providing modern and advanced technological services to citizens, which enhances the ability of companies and individuals to communicate and deal more effectively in the fields of e-commerce, transportation, and public services.
It also enhances Palestine’s sovereignty over its data and provides an independent digital identity, which contributes to consolidating the Palestinian presence on the global digital map.”
“This step contributes to placing Palestine on the global digital map, as citizens and companies will be able to use postcodes to identify locations more accurately, which opens the doors to new opportunities for economic growth and digital development.”
Google confirmed in an official statement that post code information is now available for locations in Palestine, in line with how it displays postcodes in other places around the world.
