The Lebanese army reinforced its presence south of the Litani River yesterday evening.
In coordination with UNIFIL, the forces will take positions in designated areas to extend state authority as part of the terms of a ceasefire deal with Israel which came into place in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The army’s leadership urged “citizens returning to villages and towns near the southern border, particularly in the districts of Tyre, Bint Jbeil, and Marjayoun, to comply with the directives of military units and avoid areas where Israeli occupation forces are present, for their safety. There is a risk of hostile fire from these forces.”
The ceasefire agreement officially came into effect at 4am local time.
The Israeli Security Cabinet approved the US-proposed ceasefire agreement for Lebanon, with ten members voting in favour and one opposing; National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.
