The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has submitted an official request today calling on football’s governing body in Europe, UEFA, to hold a disciplinary review of Gavriel Kanichowsky and his club, Maccabi Tel Aviv.

The TFF told Anadolu that the Israeli player’s military salute to his army during a recent goal celebration was “political, thoughtless and intended to convey a message.”

The federation announced that it has requested UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Board to launch an investigation into the incident involving the player and his club when Maccabi Tel Aviv beat Turkiye’s Besiktas 3-1 in a UEFA Europa League match in Hungary last week. Kanichowsky, 27, scored the opening goal.
