Egypt’s Al-Azhar, the Muslim world’s foremost religious institution, expressed deep concern over the developments in Syria, urging Syrians to remain aware of the importance of their country’s unity and sovereignty.
Al-Azhar emphasised that safeguarding Syria’s land, resources and borders should be the top priority for its people. It called on the Syrian people to unite and maintain solidarity, likening their bond to a single body where the suffering of one part is felt by all.
Al-Azhar warned the Syrian people of cunning plans aimed at dividing their country, weakening their strength and plunging them into cycles of conflict and civil war.
It stressed that certain hostile forces have no intention of allowing Syria to achieve stability or prosperity. Syrians were urged to remain vigilant, recognise the gravity of the situation and protect their nation’s rich history and enduring civilisation.
The statement strongly condemned Zionist opportunism in exploiting Syria’s current hardships to seize its land and resources. Al-Azhar highlighted that the occupying entity has a long history of usurping the lands of neighbouring countries, plundering their wealth, and using their resources to serve its interests.
It called on the Arab and Islamic world to adopt firm and swift measures and exert international pressure to halt the expansion of this “cancerous entity” that seeks to infiltrate the Arab world one bit at a time.
