Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid said yesterday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s claims that Israeli military operations against Hezbollah and Iran causing the fall of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad are “detached from reality.”
In a statement, Lapid said: “The world knows that Netanyahu’s statement has nothing to do with reality. The Prime Minister’s conduct was irresponsible, dangerous and devoid of any political logic.”
Netanyahu had claimed on Sunday that Israeli attacks on Hezbollah and Iran were responsible for the collapse of Assad’s regime.
Meanwhile, former Israeli Defence Minister and leader of the right-wing opposition party Yisrael Beiteinu, Avigdor Lieberman, criticised Israeli intelligence agencies for failing to predict developments in Syria.
In a speech to the Knesset, shared on his X account, Lieberman said: “I hope we are not caught off guard again.”
He added, Israeli intelligence neither anticipated nor warned about the situation.
Lieberman concluded that all intelligence agencies must monitor how these events impact the occupation state of Israel.
