Syria’s new government has appointed Maysaa Sabrine as governor of the country’s Central Bank, Reuters has reported. Sabrine was formerly a deputy governor of the bank, said a senior Syrian official.
She will be the first woman to lead the institution in its more than 70-year history. She replaces Mohammed Issam Hazime, who was appointed governor in 2021 by ousted President Bashar Al-Assad.
Sabrine did not respond immediately to a request from Reuters for a comment.
