The cold front which has struck the Gaza Strip has killed seven Palestinians so far, with the death toll expected to increase given the dire living conditions in the enclave as a result of the ongoing Israeli aggression, the spokesperson for the Gaza Municipality warned.
In an interview with Al-Qahira Al-Ikhbariya, Husni Mhana described the situation in Gaza as extremely tragic, exacerbated by the continuation of the Israeli war for the fifteenth consecutive month.
He further explained that the harsh weather front had destroyed and uprooted numerous makeshift tents, which provided inadequate protection for the displaced population.
Mhana highlighted that the city of Gaza and the wider Strip are suffering from severely damaged infrastructure due to Israel’s bombing campaign. Over 175,000 metres of sewage networks have been affected, while rainwater drainage systems have sustained significant damage, with over 15,000 metres impacted.
He confirmed that eight sewage treatment stations have been completely destroyed during the war, worsening the environmental and health crises in the region.
Tents, he explained, do not offer sufficient protection to the displaced against the freezing winter cold or the scorching summer heat, further aggravating the already dire humanitarian situation.
