Turkiye expects Customs Union negotiations to be accelerated: Minister

Omer Bolat, the Turkish Trade Minister stated that improvements in their relations and cooperation with High-Level Dialogue on Trade would speed up the Customs Union negotiations with the EU.

After his visit to Thomas Hans Ossowski, head of the EU’s delegation to Turkiye, Bolat stated on X that Turkiye places great importance on the multidimensional development of its relations with the EU.

Turkiye promotes an inclusive EU trade policy “and cooperation in green and digital transformation areas,” he added.

“The EU will continue down this path with determination and we will deepen and develop our trade relations,” added the Minister.

The first High-Level Dialogue on Trade between Turkiye and the EU took place on 8 July, 2024.

The Customs Union between Turkiye and the EU, Customs Union Joint Committee (CUJC) was established to discuss and exchange views on the alignment level of Turkish legislation to the EU legislation and on the problems related to implementation in the areas of direct relevance to the functioning of Customs Union including commercial policy, competition policy and customs legislation.
