Syria’s Ministry of Interior said yesterday that it carried out a security campaign in Hama province resulting in the arrest of individuals implicated in crimes of murder, torture and weapon theft.
The SANA news agency reported, citing the ministry’s media office, that “following repeated attempts and numerous appeals for fugitives from the remnants of the ousted regime to surrender their weapons and comply with the directives of the General Command and the Military Operations Directorate, our forces launched a security campaign to sweep certain areas in the Hama countryside.”
The ministry stated: “The operation targeted the areas of Qamhana, Arzeh and Khattab, aiming to secure the regions and retrieve weapons for the army and security forces.”
It added that “efforts are currently underway in the city of Halfaya and other towns used by outlaws as strongholds for carrying out terrorist operations against citizens and Ministry of Interior personnel.”
The ministry confirmed that the campaign “has led to the arrest of several individuals involved in crimes of murder, torture and the theft of weapons aimed at destabilising security and public order.”
