The Civil Defence Authority in Gaza revealed that the bodies of more than 2,800 Gazans incinerated due to the Occupation’s use of weapons that produce high temperatures.
The authority called for logistical and human support from Arab and foreign civil defence crews to assist in relief efforts, stressing Gaza’s need for rescue, ambulance and firefighting equipment. In a statement, it spoke about “the martyrdom of 97 staff members and the injury of 319 others, including dozens who sustained permanent disabilities, after being targeted by Israel” during the past 16 months of Israeli genocide in Gaza.
It added, “The Occupation army has detained 27 members of our staff, including the Civil Defence Director in northern Gaza governorate, Ahmed Al-Kahlout, and the directors of the three centres in the governorate. We do not know anything about their condition after they were taken to unknown locations.”
The statement said that Civil Defence crews “recovered more than 38,000 martyrs from the areas, homes and buildings targeted by Israel in all governorates of the Strip and transferred more than 11,000 patients to hospitals” since the beginning of the war on 7 October, 2023.
The Civil Defence explained that the areas in the northern Gaza Strip have become “a pile of rubble”, and called for allowing the entry of Arab and foreign civil defence crews to assist in the rescue efforts.
“Our crews were able to contain 22,403 fires resulting from the targeting populated areas, commercial and economic buildings and agricultural lands, and to evacuate 42,000 people from areas and homes that posed a threat to their lives,” it added.
The Civil Defence estimated the number of “martyrs whose bodies evaporated and which we could find no trace of at 2,840 martyrs, due to the Occupation army’s use of weapons that produce temperatures between 7,000 and 9,000 degrees Celsius, melting everything at the centre of the explosion.”
The Civil Defence authority said, “Difficult and arduous tasks await us, including searching for the bodies of more than 10,000 martyrs, who are still under the rubble of destroyed homes, buildings and facilities, and they are not registered in the martyrs’ figures.”
The Civil Defence in Gaza reported that the Israeli army prevented its crews from working in several areas in the north, centre and south of the Strip, where there are “hundreds of bodies that have not yet been reached.”
The Agency pointed out that “after 470 days of the Israeli genocidal war, the Civil Defence in Gaza needs to be rehabilitated, built and provided with the human staff, capabilities and the equipment needed for them to work in the coming period, to deal with the massive destruction left behind by the war.”
