The Gaza Electricity Distribution Company has estimated the losses incurred by the power sector from Israel’s war on the besieged enclave at about $450 million, explaining that the Israeli occupation army has deliberately destroyed the company’s headquarters and electricity lines as well as 80 per cent of its equipment.

In  a statement issued yesterday, the company welcomed the signing of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and considered the agreement an important step towards achieving security and stability in the Gaza Strip and the region in general.

Company spokesman, Mohammed Thabet, said the Electricity Distribution Company is fully prepared to start rehabilitation work to the power sector to restart vital facilities and restore electricity to enable relief services to citizens in the Gaza Strip as soon as possible.

He explained that the company has already prepared rehabilitation plans and is working to start maintaining the damaged electrical networks and repairing the electrical infrastructure which was severely damaged during the war.
