Kurdish leader found dead in mysterious circumstances in eastern Syria

The body of Ismael Fattah, a leader in the Kurdish National Council (ENKS), was found yesterday morning with marks of torture in Qahtaniyah town in Al-Qamishli countryside in northern Al-Hasakah, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) has said.

According to SOHR sources, he was kidnapped a few days ago. The perpetrators have yet to be identified.

Fattah was the leader of local affairs of the Kurdish National Council in Jal Agha and Alyan. His murder coincides with discussions to unite the Kurds and mediation efforts by the leadership of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and western authorities.

Al-Araby Al-Jadeed news site said his family accused the Kurdish internal security forces (Asayish) of kidnapping him a few days ago while he was in his car.
