The Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad is organising an international forum in Istanbul, Turkiye, this Saturday to announce the establishment and launch of a global coalition opposing the occupation of Palestine. The initiative aims to affirm the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights, including their right to self-determination.

The coalition seeks to strengthen international efforts to support the Palestinian cause, hold Israel accountable for the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people, and create a unified platform to coordinate and amplify the voices of those advocating for Palestinian rights worldwide.

The forum will feature discussions and preparatory workshops designed to lay the groundwork for launching this global coalition.

This event follows the recent ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel in Gaza, which came into effect last Sunday. The Israeli aggression, which lasted nearly 470 days, resulted in over 47,000 Palestinian deaths, approximately 111,000 injuries, and an untold number of individuals still missing under the rubble of destroyed homes.

Sari Zaiter, head of the forum’s preparatory committee, emphasised that this international gathering comes in response to the ongoing aggression against Palestine and Gaza. He described the coalition as a comprehensive umbrella uniting various groups, organisations, and movements that have shown solidarity with Palestine through protests, parliamentary actions and media campaigns.

“We aim to strengthen the global grassroots movement, including unions, parliaments, journalists, students and universities, to pressure Western governments to change their policies and recognise the Palestinian people’s right to freedom and justice,” Zaiter said, stressing that the Israeli occupation remains the root cause of instability in the region.

Ziad Al-Aloul, spokesperson for the Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad, noted that preparations for the coalition have been ongoing for months, even prior to the Gaza ceasefire. Al-Aloul emphasised that the ultimate goal is to end the occupation.

The coalition will initially include representatives from over 50 countries and will operate as an independent entity with its own objectives.
