The United Arab Emirates (UAE) yesterday announced that a high-speed train will connect the capital, Abu Dhabi, with Dubai, Anadolu reported.

Crown Prince Khaled Bin Mohammed Bin Zayed of Abu Dhabi and Crown Prince Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid of Dubai attended the official announcement, held during a ceremony organised by the Etihad Rail Company, according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

The high-speed train project aims to provide fast and efficient transport between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, significantly reducing daily travel time.

Etihad Rail Company will oversee the development and operation of the project, which is set to allow travel between the two cities in just 30 minutes at a maximum speed of 350 kilometres per hour. The route will pass through key strategic locations and tourist attractions.

The train is anticipated to contribute up to 145 billion dirhams ($39.47 billion) to the UAE’s gross domestic product over the next 50 years, as reported by WAM.

Tenders for contracts have been issued, and the network’s designs have been approved in preparation for the next phases. The project is expected to reach completion in the coming years, though no official opening date has been announced.
