Saudi Arabia’s Islamic Minister Sheikh Abdullatif Al-Asheikh inaugurated the third Khair Ummah conference in Bangkok yesterday, attended by Thai National Assembly President Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, along with ministers, muftis, and Islamic leaders from Southeast Asia.

The two-day conference, which concluded today, aimed at fostering Islamic unity and promoting adherence to truth, highlighted the challenges facing the Muslim world. “This situation calls for a real response from scholars and researchers to clarify the right religious stance against sedition and reinforce core principles of the Islamic faith,” Al-Asheikh said, urging Islamic scholars to combat extremism and uphold Shariah and the Prophet’s Sunnah.

Arab News reports that Al-Asheikh emphasised Saudi Arabia’s dedication to serving Islam, citing its projects to enhance pilgrim experiences at the Two Holy Mosques and its global Qur’an distribution efforts. Several speakers also praised the Kingdom for promoting tolerance and fostering cooperation among Muslims.

In recognition of his efforts, Al-Asheikh received the First-Class Medal for Influential Global Islamic Personality of 2024 from the Central Islamic Council of Thailand. He thanked Thailand’s Sheikhul Islam for advancing coexistence and Islamic values.

Thai Minister of Culture Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol commended Saudi Arabia’s support for Thai pilgrims, reinforcing cultural and religious ties between the two kingdoms.
