The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Wednesday the success of its mediation efforts between Russia and Ukraine, which have resulted in another exchange of 300 prisoners from both sides. The ministry explained that each side exchanged 150 prisoners, bringing the total number of prisoners exchanged through UAE-mediated efforts to 2,883.

Praising Russia and Ukraine for their cooperation in facilitating its mediation efforts and completing the prisoner exchange, the ministry said that this reflects their recognition of the UAE as a trusted go-between. It noted further that with this latest exchange, the UAE has now conducted 12 mediations since the beginning of 2024, demonstrating the strong and respectful relations it maintains with both countries.

The UAE also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting all diplomatic efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine and to mitigating the humanitarian consequences of the war, including issues related to refugees and prisoners. It has called previously on both parties to the conflict to engage in dialogue to end the fighting, which has been ongoing since February 2022.
