The Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced yesterday its initial agreement to hold an emergency ministerial meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) regarding the rejection of the displacement of Palestinians. The meeting will take place after the emergency Arab summit scheduled for 27 February in Cairo.

“Contact has taken place over the past few days between Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and a number of foreign ministers of OIC member states, including Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Iran and Jordan, to discuss developments in the Palestinian issue,” said the ministry.

It explained that the meeting aims to “reaffirm the long-standing Palestinian, Arab and Islamic stance on the Palestinian cause,” emphasising the Palestinian people’s inalienable rights, particularly self-determination and the right to live in their homeland.

The three-phase ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip came into effect on 19 January, with each phase set to last 42 days. Negotiations are supposed to be held during the first phase to start the second and third, under Egyptian and Qatari mediation and American support.

The Israel occupation forces, with American support, committed genocide in Gaza between 7 October, 2023, and 19 January, 2025, killing and wounding about 160,000 Palestinian, most of them children and women; more than 14,000 are missing. It has also resulted in one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world.
