The US Treasury Department yesterday imposed sanctions on International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Karim Khan.
President Donald Trump signed an executive order on 7 February sanctioning the ICC for issuing arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes in the Gaza Strip.
Trump accused the world court of engaging in “illegitimate and baseless actions targeting America and our close ally Israel.”
The sanctions include the freezing of any US assets belonging to Khan or others designated, as well as barring them and their families from visiting the US.
The ICC has condemned the US sanctions, vowing to stand by its staff and “continue providing justice and hope to millions of innocent victims of atrocities across the world, in all situations before it.”
