Egyptian army declares state of security, sets plan to reconstruct Gaza without displacement

An informed senior Egyptian diplomatic source has stated that Cairo’s plan to reconstruct Gaza without displacing Palestinians includes clear indications stressing Egypt’s rejection of any type of displacement that could lead to mixing a Palestinian demographic component with an Egyptian one in the Sinai Governorate.

The Egyptians believe that the security situation in Sinai near the Red Sea and the Mediterranean and on the banks of the Suez Canal cannot bear a logistical risk that includes receiving a large number of Palestinians.

According to sources in Washington, the Egyptians have provided US Secretary of State Marco Rubio with a comprehensive written briefing that includes a detailed explanation of the security reasons that require the Egyptian military institution to refuse to facilitate the displacement plan proposed by US President Donald Trump.

This briefing is based on the risks that demographic movement with the displacement of Palestinians from their land will have on the security of waterways and the existence of a social base of Sinai Bedouin tribes that are sympathetic to the Palestinian people and even close to the Hamas movement, which in the Egyptian institutions’ opinion, has managed to infiltrate the Sinai tribe communities.

The Egyptian military institution has also begun sending specific messages to the Israeli side to highlight that Cairo will never agree to the mass displacement of Palestinians, and that all it will accept is a group of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip for humanitarian reasons and as temporary residents and visitors.

The Egyptian third field army, which is the command responsible for Sinai and the borders with Gaza, declared a state of high alert last Wednesday morning.

This is an urgent message indicating that the Egyptian army is ready for military combat to prevent Trump’s displacement plans and for any Israeli military step to move the population.

This came after reports by military experts that armoured vehicles belonging to the Egyptian army had entered the demilitarised zones in Sinai on the border with Israel.
