The Emirati Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday received the credentials of Yossi Shellly, Israel’s new envoy to Abu Dhabi, the UAE’s official WAM news agency reported.

A statement issued by the ministry said Omar Obaid Alhesan Alshamsi, undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, received a copy of Shelly’s credentials and wished him success in performing his duties.

During the meeting, Alshami emphasised the UAE’s keenness to enhance bilateral ties between Abu Dhabi and Tel Aviv in all fields, according to the same source.  For his part, the newly appointed ambassador praised the UAE’s leading position regionally and internationally under “the visionary policy of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE”.

Shelly, 65, has previously held several government and diplomatic positions, in addition to working in the business sector.

In 2023, he served in the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and served as Tel Aviv’s Ambassador to Brazil between 2016 and 2021.

The UAE and Israel normalised relations in 2020 following mediation by the US.
