The UN World Food Programme (WFP) warned on Wednesday that it only has enough food supplies in the Gaza Strip to keep public kitchens and bakeries open for less than two weeks, now that Israel has stopped the entry of food, fuel, medicine and other supplies into the Palestinian enclave.
This announcement was made in the context of the Israeli blockade reimposed over the weekend, which aims to pressure Hamas to accept an alternative ceasefire arrangement, six weeks after the fragile agreement was reached between the two parties.
Israel had allowed a relative surge of humanitarian aid during the first six weeks of the ceasefire, but the WFP said on Wednesday that its stock of supplies is very low, as it prioritised distributing food to the population, reported Sky News Arabia.
The WFP also warned that its fuel stocks will only last a few weeks.
