The President of the Kurdistan Region in northern Iraq, Nechirvan Barzani, has expressed support for the agreement reached between Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa and Farhad Abdi Shahin, the commander of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

In a post published on X yesterday, Barzani said the agreement represents a suitable roadmap for the future.

He also affirmed that the Kurdistan Region “fully supports” peace and stability in Syria.

On Monday, the Syrian presidency announced the signing of an agreement providing for the integration of the SDF into the institutions of the Syrian Arab Republic, reaffirming Syria’s territorial unity and rejecting division. The deal is set to be implemented by the end of the year.
