A Saudi official has dismissed what he described as “misleading” reports that allege that Riyadh is providing logistical support for the US air strikes targeting Yemen’s Houthis.
Speaking to the Saudi news network Al-Arabiya, the official denied allegations that Riyadh is providing oil supplies for the current military operations in Yemen.
US President Donald Trump ordered military operations in Yemen which he said targeted Houthi sites, whom he described as “terrorists”, over their attacks on shipping traffic in the Red Sea.
US officials expect the American strikes to continue for days, or possibly weeks.
This is the first military operation that Trump has ordered since he was sworn in as president, and the largest American operation against the Houthis yet.
Houthi-affiliated health authorities in Yemen confirmed the killing of 30 individuals and the injury of 100 others in the US strikes that hit several Yemeni provinces, including Sanaa and the Houthi stronghold of Saada.
The Houthi group condemned the US air strikes and vowed to retaliate. It also denied allegations of being affiliated with Iran, adding that its military operations will continue in solidarity with Gaza until the the Israeli-imposed blockade on humanitarian aid bound for the Strip is lifted.
