Sudan’s ambassador to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Hassan Hamid, on Tuesday called on the international community to increase pressure on the United Arab Emirates, accusing it of supplying weapons to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) engaged in the devastating war in Sudan.

The RSF has been fighting a bloody conflict with the Sudanese army since April 2023.

Hamid said, “The supplier of weapons to the Rapid Support Forces is well known. Unfortunately, it is the United Arab Emirates.”

He added during a press briefing, “Sudan calls on the international community to act today… with decisive pressure on the UAE to immediately stop arming and funding this terrorist militia.”

The conflict, which has killed tens of thousands and displaced millions, has recently spread to new areas of Sudan, raising fears of an even greater humanitarian disaster.

The fall of the city of El Fasher has allowed the RSF to take control of the capitals of all five states in the vast western Darfur region, sparking concerns that Sudan could effectively be divided along an east–west axis.

At the start of the war, the Sudanese army accused the UAE of supporting the RSF with weapons and mercenaries transported through Chad, Libya, Kenya, and Somalia, both by land and air.
